We have always struggled with school, mainstream was a nightmare and even with IEPs in place she was excluded. We tried a school with a special facility for Autism, which was great, but 3 hours a day on the bus makes for one grumpy girl. Then there’s the added bonus of being in a “grey area”, she has severe emotional and social issues but no learning difficulties, so as for secondary school there is just nowhere suitable. So we decided to home educate. I handed in my notice at work (finished Friday), J finished last Thursday and we start home education from Monday (although we had a trip to the zoo over the bank holiday to get us started). Her favourite animals were the Lions, Tigers and Fennec Foxes, so we have decided to do some research on these animals.
You might just see the Fennec Foxes behind her, they are like little puppies and so cute.
She is already chilled out and relaxed and I also feel like I have made the right decision, not only for Jamie but for us as a family. I got home from work on Friday to a letter saying that the school tansport was changing as from September, so new bus, new times, new people and she would not have coped with that at all.
If anyone out there home schools and has any tips, then feel free to pass them on. I haven’t a clue what i’m doing but I am looking forward to it.
